What is naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a form of healthcare that proposes natural therapies as alternatives to mainstream medical treatments. Naturopathy rests on the following pillars: Self-healing: the body has the capacity to heal itself. Prevention: preventing is better than curing. Education: individuals can understand the implications of their life habits and are responsible for their own lifestyle choices.

Naturopathy aims to remove the obstacles to self-healing and recovery, not by treating visible symptoms but by addressing the underlying causes. Naturopathic treatments tend to avoid surgery and the use of conventional drugs, although some naturopaths may use modern diagnostic techniques. In general, naturopathic treatments include diet and nutrition recommendations, lifestyle adjustments, herbal supplements and manipulative therapy. Naturopaths strive to recognize individuality and to take into consideration all aspects of a person when prescribing a treatment.
